They're big enough to prick out individually and I must do that. Do wish it would warm up enough to get things planted in the garden. Hopefully it will in the next couple of weeks.

I bought cornflower seeds, "Double Blue", and want to sow some of them, too. I love cornflowers.

:)

RE: Poppies

Hi

we still have plenty of potting up to do.

the fish have started feeding, at last!

the frogspawn has mostly hatched, and I have turned the filters on.

maybe spring has sprung!(i hope)

RE: Poppies

My annual bedding plants are all in their own pots now. Dozens of them which will have to be going out for hardening off soon surely. The place looks a mess. they're all over. Things should start to warm up soon or we will be unable to move around.:P

RE: Poppies

My one plant is a cherry type, too. I might keep it in the portable greenhouse with the flap open, removing some of the shelves so it can grow upwards, unhindered! :)

RE: Poppies

I'm growing cherry tomatoes which may prove to be slightly more hardy.

RE: Poppies

Like us, Stymie, you're weather is still wintery! I did plant out the spring onions this morning, though. My fuschia, tomato plant and the beans are still snug in the portable greenhouse.

:)

RE: Poppies

I've spent a couple of cold hours, potting Impatiens on. I've got a combination of East wind and drizzle just now.

RE: Poppies

Very interesting. I'll send on my address. A friend grows the Welsh poppy, the yellow one. :)
Ah, yes, the welsh poppies are very nice, although strictly speaking they're not true poppies, belonging as they do to a different genus (Meconopsis, rather than Papaver). They are, in fact, more closely related to the blue Himilayan poppies (M. betonicifolia, etc.) Now THOSE are beautiful plants, but I've never had any luck growing them from seed.
Yes, Stymie, the seeds are so tiny. Thanks for the tip about the sand.
I don't think covering is necessary to deter birds - the seeds are so small and numerous, I doubt they'll find them all. Also, bear in mind that poppy seeds need light to germinate (that's why they appear as if from nowhere on disturbed soil. If buried they will lie dormant for up to 100 years, apparently).

RE: Poppies

Thank you very much, Jimothy.
