View from Kitchen Window and New Potoato Patch

A cold but sunny day. This is my garden as seen from the kitchen window, and beyond the trellis on the bottom right of the garden is the new patch for the "Pentland Crown". The winter flowering clematis is outside the front door.

Brightlingsea Open Gardens 28th/29th June 2008

Hi All,

Sorry I haven't been around lately, but during the past month I was busy getting ready for our village Open Gardens. This is the 16th year. I believe we started off with approximately 12 gardens open and this year it was 33, so you can see how we have grown :).

I usually open for the whole weekend, but this year only on the Sunday from 10.00 - 17.00 as I myself, this year, wanted to visit a few of the other Open Gardens on the Saturday. After midday Sunday we had had approx. 150 people through the garden, at that point I stopped counting :).

Amongst the visitors to my garden was a Japanese lady with her English husband, she was in awe of the flowering Fuchsia Bonsai. Later she showed me photos of herself in her beautiful kimono, and where were the photos taken with other ladies in national dress!!!!!!!, in the Japanese Garden at Cheslsea Flower Show, maybe you saw this on the tv in May. I felt honoured to have such a celebrity visit my garden :-)

The final total that we raised for our local Hospice was £9,570, that is our best ever :w00t:.

Now that is behind us, I am busy preparing for the next four weekends. Four different Fuchsia Shows here in East Anglia where I shall be doing a Fuchsia Bonsai Display for each, "Upwards and Onwards" as the saying goes :-)

After all the recent rain and mild temperatures, everything is growing away, weeds included of course.

It's as if the Hosta clumps increase in size every day :)

Penstemons are beginning to flower too.

but as you see, time to get stuck into hedge cutting :) Yesterday afternoon did both sides of No.1

and a third of No.2

and how am I going to get in there without causing any damage, you may ask?????? With great difficulty :) and being very careful :), when that's finished only No.3 to do, so I don't have to look for a job atm, Happy Gardening

I notice that the pulmonria is predominantly blue this year, last year it was more pink.

Fed the roses for the first time this year, this morning.

Still a long way from "finished" (whatever that means, but here's some shots i took this morning, plus a "before photo and the plan I drew up before starting work...

Previously, the garden had been a rectangular patio running the full width of the house, and then very rough grass covering the rest.

The outline plan - transparent overlays then give details such as planting and building specifics:

At the begining of work (last winter) - basic areas lined out with sand, and before you ask, nobody was killed - the person outline is to scale, and was just to check that the lawn was spacious enough to lie down on:

The same view today, existing patio cut to form a circle segment, and edged to tie in with the other elements saved the expense of buying new slabs:

Further out, the greenhouse houses several hundred carnivorous plants, many chillies, and the dahlias which i forgot to get out of the garage until last weekend, and which should, by rights, be occupying the empty bed between the path and lawn :Whistling: :

well the grass has turned a little brown but all of the moss is keeping it mainly green:blush:
there is another greenhouse behind the one that can be seen then there is a gap of about twenty feet and then there is a garden shed.
there are trees all over the place that are out of sight (the missus is always complaining that i have too many:crying:

Hubby painting the trellis for me, that surrounds the bonsai garden

and I've been cleaning the gravel in places where the blackbirds persist in 'scrapping' soil everywhere :)

this picture is taken from a downstairs bedroom.

this view is from my workshop, i would prefer my trees to be higher up off the ground, something i'm working on!

Ideal for ground cover at this time of year.

Corydalis Flexuosa - China Blue, Forget-Me-Nots and creeping Phlox 'nivalis'. This spot only gets morning sun.

Hi Guys

Heres a few more photo's of my London garden August 07 having won my local gardening competition for best small back garden, Ealing in bloom the winners from all over London were entered in the all London finals which was held at the Mansion House (City of London)

My garden won a bronze medal coming third in London for me it was such an achievement being judged by my peers my garden is 30ft sq and as i said before its a fusion of east meets west with a back drop of mature trees this is my second post regarding my garden these photos are much better. Enjoy

Theres something about topiary that i just love ,my garden is full of topiary speciems if your not a keen gardener who can devote plenty of time to nurturing your plants , and if your green fingered skills are negligible and you spend most time at work. Then topiary could be for you, low maintenance ,clip twice a year all year around interest, evergreen what more could you ask for

Most trees need to be cut back on this pic.

Almost every tree has been repotted in spring and as you see they show a lot of new growth.
