Beautiful flowers. Have been watching a bee buzzing around the pulmonaria in the front garden. It's been a damp and drizzly day, but mild. I spent a couple of hours tidying pansies at the garden centre this morning and have just walked a neighbour's JRT, as he (the neighbour) is laid up with a bad back.

:)

RE: Social Chat discussions

:) Thanks, Stymie. I'm watching the Paris to Nice cycling on Eurosport. Looks very wet over there, too. I've just come in dripping with very wet dogs from walking in hail and heavy rain. Had to go out to deliver a birthday card. I use newspaper to blot the dogs in the first instance and then towel them dry! The wind is gusting strongly and blowing wheelie bins around.

RE: Social Chat discussions

Gudonya Billy, keep woofing.

RE: Social Chat discussions

Hello, Stymie.

Billy is doing very well, thank you. The difference in her demeanour is noticeable. She's bright again and wanting to go for walks, whereas before she was depressed and in pain. I'm very pleased the operation went so well. Like most dogs, not knowing what happened, she was back to normal behavour very quickly. Half the sutures came out after 10 days and the remaining ones four days after that. She's resting now after breakfast - time for me to have a cup of tea. Hope the weather isn't extreme in your part of the world. Not looking forward to the gales that are forecast.

:)

RE: Social Chat discussions

Penny.

How is Billy the bitch doing? She doesn't seem to know she has sutures. Not having a bandage helped. She would have fussed with that. She has a strip of "Primapore" adhesive dressing stick along the incision and it's doing very well. The vet was pleased with her progress and she has her sutures out on Friday. :)

A hard frost overnight but beautiful sunshine now, at 10.45 a.m.

Hope you all have good weather to get out in your gardens. :)

RE: Social Chat discussions

Ah, how sweet! The dear little thing. :) I'm just out for an hour at the Credit Union session we hold once a week on the estate, so I'll put the collar on Billy. It's a"see-through" design, so one up on the opaque ones they've worn before. She doesn't have a bandage but a long strip of "Primapore" dressing stuck to the incision and she's taken an interest in that once or twice.

Another lovely sunny afternoon. I've just dug some more of the vegetable patch and tied string to the canes for beans, etc. Hope you are all having a good day and can get into your gardens.

RE: Social Chat discussions

No doubt Billy will appreciate your company and TLC.

Some years ago, we had a little Boston terrier named Panda. She also required abdominal surgery. She recovered quickly, but for at least 6 months afterwards, if she was reprimanded for some naughtiness, she'd immediately roll onto her back, with one paw just resting on the scar, and the most sorrowful expression! It was almost as if she was saying "Just look at what I've been through, and now you're scolding me!! How could you?!?!"

Cheers

Carol

RE: Social Chat discussions

Thank you, Carole. Very good of you to wish Billy all the best. She had a restless night, in pain, I think, so I've just given her a dose of "Metacam" painkiller I had for one of the other dogs. She doesn't like wearing the plastic "Elizabethan" collar, so I've taken it off while I sit with her. She was hungry just now (6 a.m.) and has had a meal and is quiet in her basket, covered up with a blanket. :)

RE: Social Chat discussions

Very happy to hear Billy has come through the surgery OK. I've just collected Billy from the veterinary surgery. She did have tumours on her spleen so it was removed. She also had a cracked tooth, and that was taken out. So she's got a sore mouth and a sore tum! She's such a good dog. She's in her basket after having something to eat. Water in the Mogul gardens would be beautiful.

A very nice, sunny day, after a cold night which froze the ponds again, and the birds' water. It's just become dark and I've come in from the garden. I turned over the bed where I planted potatoes last year - got the fork out and started on it. I also filled a wheelie-bin with twigs and branches that I had in a pile from last year. A lot more of that to clear. I spread the contents of some grow-bags on a hard dry patch of soil - with gravel in it - and I might plant some poppies there, at the side of the back garden path. It's a messy area and badly needs something to brighten it up. Just been along to shut in my neighbour's chickens for the night, as they're away.

:)

RE: Social Chat discussions

Amazing, also a lot of labour in the days when the Monsoon gardens were full of water, must have looked beautiful

RE: Social Chat discussions

Yes, a lot of labour needed to tend the tea, but perhaps the job picking it is all that is available - i.e. they wouldn't have jobs without it. :)

A frost this morning, here. Not my "cup of tea", though. Monty was certainly "taken" by it. An amazing way to deal with rubbish. Only in India would it be left standing, and even taken up by the local government. Can you imagine someone doing that here in a public space, and getting away with it?

Weren't the tea gardens amazing. I hadn't expected them to look so "patterned". And all those "old" plants in the railway garden!

The Mogul gardens were very interesting. Such a pity that they couldn't contain the water they were built for.

Looking forward to the programme from South America. :)

RE: Social Chat discussions

I've been watching Monty Don in India tonight. The birds' water outside was frozen. Saw two thrushes in the garden this morning - quite a sight. If I'd looked out of the window a minute later, I would have missed them.

I did some work at the nursery today, removing moss and weeds from potted climbing roses, taking off the top inch of soil and replacing it, adding a feed pellet.

Then watched the rugby and didn't get anything done in my own garden. :)

I did plant spring onion and spinach seeds in trays at the nursery and have them in one of the big polytunnels. Once they're grown, I'll transplant them to my garden.

I walked to look at the buckthorn I planted a few months ago over my little dog's grave. It's settled well and has buds. The new twigs are dark and the buds almost black - a very dark brown.

I went to U3A Gardening Group on Wednesday. We had a talk by the assistant head gardener from Stourhead. Very interesting. They're the only National Trust Garden to have their own tree surgeions, the gardeners having trained as such. Only six gardeners for the huge estate - with approximately 16 volunteers who help as they can. The Group has varioius trips arranged for the coming season, one to Bristol University Botanical Gardens, which sounds interesting.

Hope you were able to get out and enjoy your gardens.

RE: Social Chat discussions

I wouldn't worry about it, Kath. I'll tell Billy you'll be thinking of her. :)

The haemangioma is, in basic terms, a pocket of blood formed from broken blood vessels and could be dealt with relatively easiy, so, yes, lets hope that's what it is. The cytoma would mean removal of the spleen and hoping that there aren't tumours anywhere else, e.g. in her liver. She's in good health, otherwise, eating and exercising, so she has that in her favour.

I'll be able to walk her to the surgery, which is on the outskirts of town and a friend will bring us home in the evening.

I took this photo of her the other evening.

:)

RE: Social Chat discussions

So sorry to hear about Billy's illness, Penny.
