hello

I'm still waiting for the stuff i ordered(getting impatient) really want to get the bird plum done..but while i've been waiting it's grown loads of new shoots and leaves but i've left it alone for the root prune and re-potting...i was having a really good look at my fukien tea aswell....think i'm going to have to do that aswell....loads of fine roots coming from the surface of the soil and i don't think the soil is good on it(can't see any grit or anything) hope the stuff is here for friday so i can get it done while my daughter is at playgroup(if i show an intrest in the bonsai so does she lol)

Hello

Thank you for identifing my other tree....your right about the white flowers...when i bought it it had loads of little flower buds...but because of lack of light and water they was just dying...i put them on a window ledge in the day(no direct sunlight) and water them at night (and mist)...seemed to pick up(leaves stopped dying) jst hope it carries on picking up

Ginny. I'm glad to be able to identify your 'other' tree as Carmona microphylla also known as Ehretia buxifolia. Its common name is Fukien tea. You are correct in assuming that its an indoor tree, at least in Lancashire at this time of the year. It will be happiest at any temperature above 15c (60f). Make sure that the planting medium never dries right out and when it starts to grow in warmer days keep it continually moist. Dilute fortnightly feeding can start soon. Give it the best light that you can while inside. It will be possible to put it outside in the warm months, where it will do even better. It may sport some white flowers very soon which will give way later to green berries gradually turning red. Nice tree-like plant.

Oh sorry i forgot 1 of my trees is a sagarethia theezans the other i don't know what it is( i picked it up from the shop cos i felt bad for it it's leaves where turning black with no light and water) got it home watered it put it in the window every morning and it's picked up really nice.

Thanks for the replys...in in the uk in lancashire....i got some books from the libary but 1 book says 1 thing and another book another thing so didn;t know what was best....managed to got a pot and good bonsai compost...but still need tools and wire mesh for the drainage holes....my brother loves bonsai's but has never root pruned and he said it looks loike 1 of my bonsai's has been taken out of a bigger pot and put into a smaller pot to be sold(hence the new pot).

i'll check out the website i'll need to get the stuff asap if nows a good time.

Its nice to hear from you Jinny. Let us know if there are any specific questions. It would be helpful if you could read some bonsai related literature as a background but we'll be here to help in any way necessary. Let us know your general whereabouts and what kind of tree you are interested in.

Now would be a good time for repotting deciduous trees, coniferous trees can be done in about 4 weeks time.

To be able to advise on tools we will know whereabouts you are, there are a whole plthera of bonsai related sites that sell tools, if you are in the U.K. you could try

As a beginner you shouldn't really need many tools, I would limit yourself to a pair of general pair of general purpose scissors and a pair of concave cutters.

Alternatively you could try E-bay there are always plenty of tools on there.

Hello

Im new here...only got my bonsai's a few days ago and i'm looking for tools for pruning etc......seen that many tools in different sizes so totally confused me...i will have to get my tools online...been to every shop in my home town not found 1 tool :( so can some 1 point me in the right directio please....oh when is the best time for re-pottng and root pruning..
