Didn't seem to harm the trees at all. I'm looking for something to treat my roses while they're still dormant. There was so much blackspot last year and lots of diseased leaves remain on the plants. I've taken off as many as possible.

RE: Horse Chestnut Scale??????

I hadn't heard of it either Penny, but a couple of months ago I was watching one of the gardening programmes on the tele and it was Carol Klein who said that it was found to be on more small trees than normally, during last summer.

I did look it up in Pippa Greenwood's 'Pests & Diseases' book and she has written it is more unsightly than harmful, but can be treated with Imidacloprid (insecticide). As I don't like using chemicals of any sort unless absolutely no other solution is to be found for a problem, I will give Keith's soapy water solution a try.

RE: Horse Chestnut Scale??????

Ooh, that doesn't look very pleasant. Hope you clear it up, Kath. I've not heard of horse-chestnut scale, so I've learned something new today.

RE: Horse Chestnut Scale??????

Thank you Keith, I will give it a whirl :)

RE: Horse Chestnut Scale??????

Hi

Have you tried soapy water?

Pravado bug spray is good as well.(blue squirty bottle)

Horse Chestnut Scale??????

Would you say this is Horse Chestnut Scale? it started in the summer on an Acer tree.
