I was given this little Acacia Dealbata 6 years ago by my dear friend Christianne of the Netherlands, also one of our members :-).

I am so pleased to show you, this is the first time of flowering, have had it in the greenhouse all summer, so it's probably the hot temps that have helped it to flower, as original seed did come from Hawaai :)

hi all, i picked this lilac up from a rather run down looking garden center for £22. I was very rotten in parts & when i took it out of the pot, it looked as if a mouse had tried to nest inside the pot. Having tidied everything up & treated the deadwood with wood preserver & wood hardener, i potted it in cat litter & supported it with the aid of a garden bench & some make shift scaffolding until the roots reestablish themselves.

when its flowered i will reshape the tree into two sets of foliage (i hope)

Hi, here are a few pics of my bonsai, it's a serrissa or something like that, i forget, we bought it when we moved into our new place about 19 months now, when we got it it was a nice shape and all the leaves were nice and tight and compact, but it gradually grew more spindley, so i let the shoots grow a bit longer trying to bush it out more but it got so thin you could see right through it, so in the end i just pruned all the green off it completely right back to the main branches, that was last winter, then this spring it started shooting again and this is how it is now, which isn't bad considering i thought it was as good as dead last year. Anyway, it looks to be healthy enough, i carpeted around the bottom myself with some moss i lifted from the path outside, it has took reaaly well, then i re-potted it into a bigger pot and you can still see the smaller rectangle of moss which is how big the old pot was, then i gravled round the edge, but as you can see in the pics, the moss is slowly creeping through the gravle and knitting it together, which i quite like. What i want to know is what should i be doing with it, let it grow or trim it down tighter or what, it is still a little thin, but if i let the shoots grow to try and bush it out a bit more it gets thinner.:(

Not uncommon I know but this Prunus serrulata was a gift from Toni (Crazeegang) a couple of seasons ago. The bark is beginning to look cherry like now.

this forsythia was on its way to the garden fire, i gave up on it but had a change of mind & struggled with it for many hours. this spring i will refine the branches after its flowered (if it does?) & move it into a bonsai pot. updates to follow.

Hello and some Bonsai

Never participated on a Bonsai forum or club in my near 25 years of tinkering in this most enjoyable hobby. I thought I would just post a couple to begin with. Oh, I also drive a Smart car and enjoy my model railways. Must be something with small things:-)

So these few are between specimen and work in progress. All owned by me for at least 20 years. Mostly purchased from the bargain basement section and bought on or grown on for many years to thicken and slowly re-style.

I constructed a 'Bonsai-House' from raw timber (no kit) 12 years ago where I live now. 45' x 28' and all open to the elements.

Look forward to getting involved.

hello stime sorry for the delay in response. This is my first white pine , iv had it now for 1 year . iv repotted it this spring in to kiru and a hand full of chipped bark into a cream pot . its in full sun from 1 ish and needs constant monitoring for water in summer . i feed it on green dream organic feed once a month ish . A very SLOW GROWING acer, this one was a small sapling in 1997 and hasn't grown much since then, but I DO LOVE those little tiny leaves :)

Its a five needle pine. Overal height is 31½" (80cm) Native to the Caucasus. Needles with a white stripe like Pinus parvifolia but shorter. This exudes loads of pollen but has never grown any cones in the thirteen years that I have had it. It must be male.:P

Best bonsai, judged by Derek Bacon, was this large Acer deshojo. It had been defoliated in early June to reduce leaf size and get a second flush of spring colour.

A wet day was enjoyed by all.

hi all

a few months ago there was a draw at our club, the prize being a £50 voucher to spend at derbyshire bonsai centre.
i was lucky enough to win it:w00t:
now, for fifty quid, you don't get much and this deshojo maple has one sided branching and a two root nebari but there was just something about it (dunno what it is though:blink:)
i went with a hundred pounds in my pocket to get a nicer tree but this one was exactly fifty pounds and i couldn't see anything that took my fancy for upto £150.

This is the monster that I dug up last month to use for the club demo. in May. It has been reduced somewhat as can be seen but its going to be fun carving the deadwood. One branch only has been retained for the live part. This will be bent back over the base of the tree, thinned out and styled.

Several months ago I accidently broke a stem off of this Acacia 'Dealbata'

Planted the broken stem into a 3 inch flower pot, kept it moist and out of the sun, still a baby, but here it is now:)
