Thanks so much for the update Roy, looking forward to seeing it in flower, roll on Spring and warmer weather so that we can get out into the garden again :)

just an update as last year i had just one flower on this forsythia, but this year it looks to be laiden with flowr buds. It flowered in april last year, lets see when it flowers this year.

thanks Kath, actually it was removed from the gorund in Feb 09, but it does show what can be developed in a short time.

heres' an update, with what looks like next spring flower buds in place. not sure what i will do with the dead wood yet, but its developing nicely.

i see what you mean regrding the frog. I must say this tree has given me the chance to practice carving & offers a lot more for experimenting with its apperance.

i'm also amazed that it survived, so it has encouraged me to carry on trying to save trees bound for the garden fire.

I see a frog in the carved part of the fourth picture.:P
I did use Forsythia for a few but have none at home. They went to my Son's and Daughter's homes a few years ago. They worked reasonably well and are alive and continuing to flower in season.

this forsythia was on its way to the garden fire, i gave up on it but had a change of mind & struggled with it for many hours. this spring i will refine the branches after its flowered (if it does?) & move it into a bonsai pot. updates to follow.

work on dead wood to start here
