yes its starting to fill out now Kath. It would be nice to see some flowers Don so i may leave the formative pruning this year & hope to see some flowers.

i have just been experimanting with a black background & i think i prefere it to blue? the lilac has matured over this summer, but i still want to form a better style. its starting to go back now with the leaves turning slightly, but it still looks reasonably nice.

yes Kath, the new leaves are also larger than the original ones that came with the flowers.

I realy like the old looking trunk on this tree, it will be interesting next year when the new growth emerges, i will keep you updated.

this is how it looks as of today, i have just been thinning out two of the jins which i may reduce further, but thats it for this year.

Yes i hope it will look even better next year Kath as I also want to improve the jins, which are a little on the thick side at the mo.

I noticed that Roy and was wondering if it might be one of the many so called dwarf lilacs, Syringa meyeri 'Palibin', but am yet to find a white variety :)

Hi Don, much to my delight the flowers are smaller than i thought they would be, i'm not sure which variety of syringa it is, but i'm searching.

PS i think it could be Oblata?

Unusual colour for a Syringa Roy. Its nice. Mine are bog standard blue/lilac.

just a minor update. following extensive work on this shrub, the buds are starting to open out with flowers in evidence, i know this is perhaps not classed as a bonsai by the purist, but i love it. today i added some more wire to give it a windswept appearance & the foliage together with the deadwood looks lovely. more updates to follow when the flowers appear.

About the same size as my garden then.

The Tesco cat litter has changed alot now.The size of the clay bits are tiny.and has alot of dust etc.

If sieved,you end up with half a bag left if that.:D

yes its a bit of a tangled mess at the moment, but after flowring (if it does) i will refine the branch structure.

hi all, i picked this lilac up from a rather run down looking garden center for £22. I was very rotten in parts & when i took it out of the pot, it looked as if a mouse had tried to nest inside the pot. Having tidied everything up & treated the deadwood with wood preserver & wood hardener, i potted it in cat litter & supported it with the aid of a garden bench & some make shift scaffolding until the roots reestablish themselves.

when its flowered i will reshape the tree into two sets of foliage (i hope)
