You caught me out this time Don Lovely effect at night Jim, can you keep the photo size down to a maximum size of 500 pixels width please, otherwise it distorts the page, thank you

Hello all, and sorry for the long absence from the forum - my broadband's been out of action for the last month!
Just thought Kath might like to see this species gladiolus - G. papilio, which I think is very reminiscent of Allium bulgaricum, as shown on the previous page of this thread. The flowers are bigger (4-5cm), though, and held more upright, so are more easily appreciated than the Allium, which is really only special when you get up really close to it....

Just a quick update - the garden's looking a bit more mature this year, just compare these photos with those in the first page, which were taken a year ago.
Overview:

The shady border (primarily planted for foliage interest):

A couple of nice Aquilegias:

Acer palmatum glowing in the sun:

Alliums and hostas:

The delphiniums are on the verge of opening now, and then it won't be long before the Gladioli, Heleniums and Dahlias kick in, to be followed up by Aconitums and so on, so flower fans will have more to see in the coming weeks...

| What a difference a year makes Jim, it really is 'coming-into-it's-own' now, love the shady corner, the colour of the heuchera against the hostas is great as is the allium. I have a lovely 'Ruby Wedding' Astrantia flowering next to my Hostas atm, mind you saying that, it has self-seeded over the years and I have an abundance of colours of them now, ranging from very pale pink through to the original dark maroon red of 'Ruby Wedding', but love them all as well as the foliage. Thanks for sharing with us, keep us updated in the future
