"Courgettes and Cabbages" - Sounds like a title for a film or a book!
Do you have any luck with courgettes? I planted two but only one there now - the second having been munched. The same with cabbages. I planted six and have four left. I don't like using slug pellets because of the hedgehogs and sloworms in the garden, so I put up with plants disappearing. The same has happend to three of the tomato plants but I've one or two left.
I ought to get some little cloche covers - I will, eventually.

| Hi Penny, If it's a slug/smail problem have you tried covering the surrounding soil with a 2 inch layer of sharp grit, I use horticultural grit around my Hosta plants and it keeps most of those little beasties at bay.

Very good idea, Kath. Thanks for the tip. I'll get some sharp sand from the garden centre. I think slugs and snails are probably the problem, though there are a lot of wood pigeons and ring doves around.

Hi,
I have never thought of using a cake stand/cover as a cloche, I just got the biggest kick out of the cheerios, Mr. Precious is such a ... He will say, Oh, for Foodie Friday? and honey told me that he was letting the bunny get some air! But I like that little cloche vignette the best.
