It hasn't been a good year for Fuchsias in general, at least here.  I even lost some cuttings including Charlie Dimmock, which is one of my favourite doubles. I've got a new (to me) double called Rocket Fire which has a lot of promise. The over-wintering ones will take their chances in an unheated greenhouse which is lined with bubble wrap. Does anyone else rely on nature like me?

My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic.
My imaginary friend Givitago takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print. He's not a complete fool - several bits are missing.

Agree Don, funny ol' year for fuchsias. Here they got the early heat of April which seemed to force them on then later all the cold damp weather, seemed to give the younger plants more of a problem with botrytis, which I've never had problems with before, but must say at the moment the ones in the garden are flowering their little hearts out, they love the cooler weather now and of course the heavy September dews.

If anyone is going to overwinter with a bit of warmth, this is the time to cut the ones in pots back, lay them on their side, outside, they'll soon shoot again with all that moisture from the dew.

I've never grown Rocket Fire Don, but does look a 'big beauty' from photos that I've seen.

Living that bit further south than your good self, I do have an awful lot in the garden which aren't officially hardy and have survived the winters during the past few years. What will happen if we get a very cold winter again is anyone's guess, but as you say, they all have to take their chances.

Kath.

Can you give me the name of the pale pink Magellanica type? cos I've got one unnamed.

Oooooooooooooh, not an easy task Don as there are several that are very similar. Here below are three, all with whitish sepals and very pale pink corollas.

The lightest one being (in my opinion) is Mrs. W.P.Wood

Then we have Magellanica var. Molinae also know as Magellanica var. Alba

and Magellanica Whiteknight's Blush

There are a couple more but I don't have photos of same. As you may have guessed by now the 'fuchsia -world' is very confusing , even more so in this day and age as it is said that there are more than 10,000 varieties now.

I didn't intend to cause you all that trouble Kath but I think you've hit it.  M. alba is my best bet. Thanks a bunch. =Don.
