I was given a "Grow Your Own Bonsai" kit by someone who doesn't know anything about bonsai. The seed packet isn't labelled as to variety so it's going to be fun seeing if I can grow it, and whether it can be identified.

Did anyone else get trees?

Hi Penny,

No didn't get anyseeds/trees this year, but in years past I was given a few of those starter kits

Have always put them into a seed tray with John Innes No.3 in and placed outside and forgot them really , in my experiencence they turn out to be various pines

Hello Kath.

I thought the seeds would probably be pine. I'll put the pot outside as you say that's what you did.

I'll let you know what happens, if anything does.

, well done Don.

and I.......................received 2 new orchids, 1 deep lilac Phalenopsis and one fuchsia pink Cymbidium, a Christmas box of delicious goodies from my dear Dutch friends Christianne (also a Forum Member) and her husband Nico.

And my Christmas Present to myself was to share a wonderful weekend 20th/21st with these two lovely people in London.

Walked around the old Covent Garden area before the show, found a nice little Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a most delicious meal and then on to the show. FANTASTIC show, I hadn't been to a live show in London since I was 18 (many moons ago ).

Sunday we spent sight-seeing. Starting off at Big Ben and Houses of Parliament, over Westminster bridge, and then went for a ride in the London Eye, oh boy what an experience, 135 metres high at the highest point, beautiful views of London.

Then onwards to Speakers Corner, Hyde Park, had a right giggle there. Ambled, yes I mean ambled along Oxford Street and New Bond Street. Stopped at a little corner pub here for a lovely Tuna Mayonaisse Sandwich. Onwards to Piccadilly, along the Mall to Buckingham Palace, by this time I'm sure my legs were several inches shorter . So it was then a taxi back to the plush hotel on the embankment, Swissotel The Howard, ooooooooooooooooh what a Special Treat this was.

One of the hobbies of Christianne and Nico is photography, so I will be adding more photos as I receive them, I'm sure they will not mind me using a couple here to share with you :-)

Christmas Day we spent with our little family, Jan, Pippa, Asha(6) and Emmy (3), just the right age to really enjoy the spirit of Christmas and 'Santa Claus'.

A view from the hotel balcony

Royal Arcade, just off New Bond Street

The trip to London sounds lovely, Kath. Reminds me of my four-day stay there when I retired two years ago. Look forward to more photos.

What lovely presents. Those orchids are so pretty.
