Hello.

I planted beetroot seeds today ("Wotan"), and kholrabi ("Quickstar"). I've not grown the latter before. Has anyone experience of growing and eating it?

We have grown white and purple varieties of Kohl Rabi Penny.  I seem to remember the flesh as being similar to swede or turnip. There wasn't much trouble with the growing.

My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic.
My imaginary friend Givitago takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print. He's not a complete fool - several bits are missing.

Thanks, Don. These are the whitish/pale green ones. Look forward to eating them.

You can Plant Beetroot in late April or 2 weeks after the last frost. You can plant until mid-July in rows with plants approximately 2 feet apart. It may work for you to plant one row every week of the season to have a longer and more equal harvest.Cover new plants with netting or plastic bottles with the top open to keep the birds away. Although birds may be an annoyance, they are only attracted to the young plants and this is the only pest of beetroot. Whatever type of cover you use can be removed as early as 2 weeks after planting. If the plants look crowded, try taking the cover off paying careful attention to the birds.
