I don't know if i am supposed to start my own topic with an introduction but there's really no point standing around thinking 'should I post? Shouldn't I post?' so i thought i might as well, how else would I know? ^_^

Anyway, You can call me Ames, i'm an avid gardener which is unusual for my age apparently but still. I currently live in Wales, UK, a few miles away from Cardiff.

I got given this bonsai tree as a gift (My friend believed i ought to have a house plant so i'd have something to do while it's raining  )) but have no idea of it's type though i suspect it's a chinese elm.

I'd like to get it's species confirmed before i do anything to it, other than water it because each species has a different care guide.

HelloAmes and welcome.

You are most likely correct with the id. Ulmus parvifolia but it would be happier outside than being a houseplant.  If it stays indoors, give it the best of light, humidity and turn it frequently to avoid lop-sided development.  It will reach for available light, become lanky and weaker in the house.  They are sold as indoor trees by dealers and will live for a fair time inside but they deteriorate.  It is not natural for a tree to grow indoors, as you, a gardener, will appreciate.

Come back with any observations or questions.

My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic.
My imaginary friend Givitago takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print. He's not a complete fool - several bits are missing.

Perhaps we should ask Ames for a close-up of a leaf so that we can see the toothed edges.

Everyone mythed at the leaves, and its not a Privet for sure.

sagereta theezans Bingo thats what it is.

if it is that for sure. Then they like humidity,So a humidity tray is good.and they dont like it to cold.
