| Just pruned back lightly and repotted. A very SLOW GROWING acer, this one was a small sapling in 1997 and hasn't grown much since then, but I DO LOVE those little tiny leaves

I picked a lanky specimen of A. shishigashira (Lion's mane maple) up from Hanby's place in 2009. It had no bonsai potential as it was but I put four air layers on at the same time last year. They worked OK and I separated them in March, planting all together as a group with four more bits chopped off as cuttings. I'm hoping to have a nine tree group out of the effort. That is if the cuttings survive. At least I have five with roots on. I can always air-layer another couple. (seemple)
My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic.
My imaginary friend Givitago takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print. He's not a complete fool - several bits are missing.
