I see they won a gold award at Chelsea flower show for their wonderful display of Bonsai. Has anyone been to Derbyshire Bonsai & if so is it worth going (i know they won a gold) but you never know till youve been.

I believe that they rent a small area within another business. This is predominantly a holding place but they seem to be branching out and have a full diary of appearances at agricultural shows in the UK.
A secretive place to find unless you take me.

No Roy, I've never been to their premises in Derbyshire, but did enjoy the coverage that BBC gave them, makes a change , they usually 'fly' past the bonsai display

I still miss earlier days when Peter Chang used to do his display, last time I visited his nursery (Heron Bonsai) in Surrey and asked if he was going to do it again, his reply was, "It is becoming very expensive and costs an awful lot of time in respect of preparation". We can all appreciate that, plus the fact that he is also not a young man anymore

Hi Don & Kath, having browsed their web site they dont seem to have any yamadori etc, also no prices on the trees featured, but they wont be cheap. Perhaps not the place for me

Their show schedule is overwhelming. They tell me that untrained material is usually built up at the end of Summer and is available through the cooler months through to Spring.

following two unanswered e-mails regarding opening time etc, we took a risk & went down to darbyshire bonsai a few weeks ago, only to find it closed

however the chap in the garden center kindly let us have a look round & what trees were there were very nice "as expected" but many were obviously out at a show with the owners.

thanks for your info Don as perhaps its worth another visit at the back end of the year to see if they have some raw material in stock.

Both Dave and Steve have mobile numbers listed on their site. Check with them to see when they're 'at home' if anyone is contemplating a visit. They may be renting a banner ad shortly in another place where we meet Roy.

i had a good chat with one of the guys at their stand at the great yorkshire show last thursday & they are in talks with a supplier of raw material.

their main concern in going down this avenue is to get a supplier that will keep them in supply of raw material & not just a short term "one off" supply. they hope to have plenty of raw material on sale for later on this year.
