Yes it's that's time of year, everything is beginning to look 'tatty', especially the perennial border.

Saturday:

Started by cutting the privet hedge at the back of the border, reached halfway and smoke started coming out of the electric hedge cutter, switched it off, took it to the dump and straight on to B&Q for a new one , not a very good start to the day, came home and completed hedge cutting and of course clearing up the mess.

Sunday:

Cutting back perennials, dividing and replanting same, digging in manure as I go. Have left things like penstemons and flox as they are still in full flower, also planting violas as I proceed. Only half way finished, nevermind it's a start

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

Mary and I were at Greenwood's Bonsai Bash yesterday. Good weather and a great day. Corin was working on this little pine. Its a two day event so he'll just about have got it tamed today.

My name is Don and I'm a bonsaiholic.
My imaginary friend Givitago takes over when I'm not sure of myself in print. He's not a complete fool - several bits are missing.

Hello Kath, Don and everyone.

Good to hear of your work in the garden. It's still dryer than usual here. Just been out to water some tubs. I hoed the veg garden this morning and pulled up overgrown Swiss chard and horse radish. I do like the smell of horse radish leaves, very evocative.

I took most of the leaves off the tomato plant in the greenhouse. It grew the most delicious, sweet little orange tomatoes. Really enjoyed eating them as compared to the big, tough red ones. The only other fruiting plant in the g/h is a bell pepper.

I only have one bonsai now, a spruce.

Hope you all keep well.

Penny

Nice to hear from you Penny, as Don asks, what happened to your other trees. This past weekend I have nearly completed the perennial border, just have to split the flag iris up and replant
