looks like we are in for a lot of ladybirds this summer, its the most ive seen for some time. These were gathered on the twigs of a yew tree, note some black & red ones.

What would you say that this number of ladybirds foretells for the new season Roy? Are they expecting a large windfall of succulent aphids to materialize? or have they flown over the Channel to escape something nasty? I don't have a theory.

I seem to have more than usual, not quite so many as you Roy , especially in the middle of the pyracantha front hedge.

I had to smile re your remark Don quote:

"or have they flown over the Channel to escape something nasty?"

Time will tell, happy gardening today, isn't it nice to feel the warmth from the sun

Yes its lovely to feel the warmth of the sun Kath especially after such a harsh winter.

What would you say that this number of ladybirds foretells for the new season

I'm not sure about why they are here in such numbers Don, but they were equalled by the amount of small black flies attracted to the laundry hung on the washing line, which they vacated to the inside of our windows when the cloths were brought inside our house, even though we thought we had removed them all?

i think its going to be an insect of a summer, which is great for bats & i love bats!!!
