Hi

I have just come indoors after doing some repotting. It is FFFFFreeeziinnngg out there!

Lots of buds are swelling, one trident maple has actually got some leaves. I will have to watch out in case of another very cold snap.

My little bonsai garden is fairly well sheltered, mainly from the wind.

Best regards

Keith

Snap Keith.  I've been re-potting and re-grouping since we got back from church this morning.I just came in for a drink and saw your post. I'm going back when I've stoked up. I don't notice the cold when I'm enjoying myself.

Me too! Just packed up for the day, only about another 25 trees to go. I have also got a trident maple with a leaf on it and the rest of the buds are ready to break, maybe spring is on its way( at long last).

I'm with you Don been outside since 8:30 and haven't noticed the cold at all since 10 minutes after I went outside. To much fun to notice a small inconvenience like that

On a serious note,i'm going to start repoting and what do you do if we get a real cold spell in the next few weeks and you've got a lot of trees. Do you take them all in under cover or do you try and cover them.

I don't think that temperate climate trees will need any cold protection here Smithy.  Some places are not as fortunate. The only consideration that I would give until they are settled in is wind protection or making sure that they're wired into the pots securely to prevent rock.

I didn't tie my heavy forest or group plantings down because they were unlikely to be moved but I've just had a nice 21" group pot smashed by the naughty wind.

That'll teach me.

I have quite a few trees to repot and it was the thing that bothered me about starting was bringing them in and out all time if we had frosts. I had wondered what you do as you have a few and some pretty big ones and i did'nt think you put them in every time it looked like frost after you had repoted them.I'm lucky i don't get as much wind as my garden is protected but the down side is i don't get as much sun as i would like.

I hope you are right as my newly potted trees are frozen solid at the moment,

Fingers crossed they should be alright as long as they are protected from any strong winds.

I put everything they I had repotted in the last 2 weeks into the garage as we were experiencing rather strong winds( better to be safe than sorry). The weather appears to be settling down a bit now so all being well I shall put them back outside tomorrow. At least being in the garage its nice and dry and a little bit warmer which allowed me to do a spot of hard pruning without getting icicles on my fingers.
