Thanks for that Nige,
It does seem like it is warming up already. If i had a garage i would have put them in . I'm in the middle of building a workshop and i was hoping to have finished it now. I only get one day a week to work on it if the weather is good but i spent yesterday building some growing beds.

I dug an A. deshojo out of the garden growing bed yesterday. There's no sign of awakening yet but it has got rather top heavy from three years in the garden, I'm not showing it yet but when the buds start to swell I feel a large cutting coming off. That'll be more sensible than just lopping it off now and dumping it because its quite substantial.

| Hi I have done all my repotting for this year. I have aquired two trees for training as shohin, one is a field maple (Acer Campestre) and the other is Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus). They only cost me £3.00 each so if they do not survive it will be no great loss. The Acer has a very good root base so I am hoping it will bounce back from the severe cutting it has just had. the other one is not as good but they both have possibilities. The trunks on both are about 5/8" thick.
Best regards
Keith

Is it too late to repot now that the little trees have buds and leaves? I think probably not, but your advice would be appreciated. The spruce and maple I have are badly in need of a repot.

| Hi If the buds on the maple have opened, it will be dangerous to repot, unless you are putting it into a bigger pot and can do so without disturbing the roots. Spruce you will be ok.
Best regards

Thanks, nige. Yes, the buds are open and the maple is in leaf, so I'll leave that until later. I'll repot the spruce, though. It's badly in need of new soil.
