This little tree came with unsightly scars and I really don't know what to do about them, if anything. When in leaf, of course, the scars are hidden.

| Hi Penny, I see that the scars are in the process of healing over. This will take some years, but in the mean time you could cut around the scar that has a bulge behind it to help it blend in with the trunk line. A bit of cut paste will lessen the effect as well. Another alternative is to make the scars a feature by doing some more carving around the scar. Hawthorn is very forgiving when cut, just look at what the hedge layers do with it!
