Hello

Thanks for the advice in bonia tech .....found some good stuff the website given to me(can't remember who but thanks.)

I've been watering every night and placing on a window ledge in the day....but was a bit doubtfull...if i would kill them or not....but watering last night i was nicly surprised to see the flower on my fukien tea opening and not dying as soon as...and a nice green berry on my bird plum....gave them thier firstfeed aswell( i think i'm winning and hoping so)...

Going to repot the bird plum when my stuff comes and was reading when repotting to take a 3rd of the fine roots off, does this sound right...really nervous of messing it up and killing it.

                       Thanks again

Hi Jinny, keep up the enthusiasm.  The root pruning advice should read; 'you may remove up to a third of the root ball at re-potting time.'  This is a maximum, not a must which has to be observed, and only to make room for fresh planting medium.  Don't fertilize anything within a month after re-potting when roots have been pruned. This could damage the cut ends.

Whenyou repot remember to mae sure that the soil fills up all the space under he rootball as well.

Do not compress the soil as roots need air as well as water

Jinny - it's worth remembering that plants have a different attitude to animals where cutting bits off them is concerned. Animals have a compact growth habit "all over" - nearly every bit of an animal grows, so if you chop bits off indiscriminately you do a lot of damage. Plants, on the other hand, have a diffuse growth habit of "end tips only" - they are designed to have bits choopped off them all over (it's to cope with grazing), and to come back from t with fresh growth. Think of it as a haircut - pruning back the branches and/or the roots is nearly always beneficial to a plant in the long run, 'cos they just start growing again.

So - COURAGE!! DO IT!!

Kind regards, SJ

Its still alive Jinny. A natural reaction to stress is to lose some leaves. It will not need as much water for the time being.  The roots will re-generate first and then new shoots above.

Hi Jinny,

Patience! It may take some weeks before you see anything happening, especially at this time of year.

Best regards

A spot of Superthrive in the water never does any harm. You might as well give it every chance eh?
